The Joy of Nashville
Posted on April 20, 2007 at 8:45 AM
There is a great joy that comes from living in Nashville, something I hope to never take for granted. I just saw Josh Turner play the Ryman. His concert was taped for a live cd that will be available exclusively at Cracker Barrel. Josh played his hits including a very dramatic opening to his signature smash, "Long Black Train". I looked around the Ryman and saw pretty much every age, every walk of life there in anticipation of that low baritone starting up the song. Every song performed sounded like a hit, and as a fan I left hoping that his label will release more songs from this album. Any of them would be his next hit, "Gravity" or the beautiful "Angels Fall Sometimes". Josh covered his hero's too from Jones to Jennings to Williams. He spoke about what an honor it is to play the Ryman and how he received consecutive standing ovations during his debut on the Opry mentioning the pressure he felt knowing the likes of Williams and Cash had stood in the same spot years ago. He joked how they were kicked out of the Opry and he can't seem to get in. Listening to his music, and watching him perform I'm sure his Opry invite isn't far off! Look for the Cracker Barrel cd to hit this summer.
Another good looking guy, Blake Shelton will guest on GAC Nights with me on April 26th. Now I've known Blake for a while and honestly, he gets better looking. Now you for you BS'ers' (Blakes fan club), not that he wasn't but you know what I mean! And let me tell you on this new cd "Pure BS" out May 1st, we realize that even the funny guy, the guy who is never serious, hurts. Blake has had changes in his life over the last 2 years and it's all on his new cd. From the lyrics to the production, I told Blake listening to his cd made me remember why I love this music. I don't want to say who it reminded me of but I will say the time or era- Think late 70's through the 80's. That's all I'm gonna say! You have to hear it!
Okay, through listening to all this great music talking to the artists I have been secretly curling my toes trying to strengthen my sore feet as the 1/2 marathon is closing in. One week away and I know that 7am starting line is going to come real fast! Team Rio, Diamond Rio's running group, raising money for Big Brothers Big Sisters, has one more long run this weekend! I have had a difficult time training with the group due to their 7am training days. Have I mentioned I'm not a morning person? I did make one and hope to make this weekends run! The camaraderie is great! It definitely helps to hear people cheering you on! So, if you can, say a prayer that my feet don't give out. All I need is a stress fracture and I'm a goner! And well I know you have your own list of prayers, so maybe you can put this one at the end if you have time, cause I know in the big scheme of things...well you know.
Thanks guys! I'll check back soon!

Thanks so much for the heads-up on the upcoming Josh Turner/Cracker Barrel CD--that Ryman show must have been amazing. I can't wait to grab that live album this summer!
